Half day sessions will be offered to nursery schools across the region to introduce young children to the concept of geological science through play with mud.

Children will adventure through the Cathedral woodland to our ‘Mud Monster Swamp’, where they will create mud monsters in the trees, while learning about the composition of mud through story telling. The children will follow a simple timeline through the woods, passing an open coal seam and learning about rock formation with the additional aid of rock and minerals charts.

Children will be encouraged to be hands-on in the session, using a mixture of mud and modelling clay to create their ‘monsters’. Building on our award winning Education provision, and following the Forest School philosophy of promoting learning through outdoor play, these sessions will engage the very youngest of learners with their first understanding of science and geology in a fun and engaging environment.
