A night at the museum with Jon Clatworthy
(Director of The Lapworth Museum of Geology)
'Twas the night before Christmas, when all thro' the house, not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse.'
That might be your home this Christmas but spare a thought to the Lapworth Museum in Birmingham where something is stirring and it's a lot bigger than a mouse. In fact it's Roary, the life size T-rex replica installed as a focal point in the museum's recent £2.7M refurbishment, and yes as the name suggests he's making himself heard, so much so that St Nick may not be risking a visit this year!
Join us as we celebrate the festive season with Jon and leam more about the museum's remarkable transformation, its valuable collections, history and new beginnings engaging interactively with the next generation of geologists on our doorstep.
Speaker
Jon has been the curator of the Lapworth Museum of Geology, located at the University of Birmingham, since 1991 and became its Director in earty 2012. He played a key role in planning and securing funding for the museum's refurbishment. The Lapworth's mission is to ensure the benefit of its collections are both realised and remain relevant to today's society, researchers and visitors alike. Come along and celebrate with a personal portrait of present-day museuming, and enjoy a mince pie at the same time!
