This is a two day field meeting addressing the "Quaternary Periglaciation of Kent" and designed to encourage greater synergy between the engineering geology and Quaternary science communities. The meeting will be of interest to Quaternary scientists, engineering geologists, geotechnical engineers, engineering geomorphologists, civil engineers, coastal engineers and geologists of all levels of experience.

Travel will be by coach each day to selected localities around Kent.

Provisional Itinerary

  • Friday 10 June: Evening introductory lecture, Walpole Bay Hotel, Cliftonville
  • Saturday 11 June: Field visits to the A21 Sevenoaks By-pass to view relict shears, landslide reactivation and road relocation and to High Rocks, Royal Tunbridge Wells to view gulls, sandstone cliffs, valley-side instability and rock weathering
  • Sunday 12 June: Field visits to Pegwell Bay and Grenham Bay, Thanet to view loess/metastable soils, fractured bedrock, patterned ground, wedges, dry valleys and slope deposits.
