EVENT CLOSED

The Scottish Geotechnical Group of the ICE and The Central Scotland Regional Group of the Geological Society are jointly hosting a poster competition in Geotechnical Engineering and Engineering Geology. The event will coincide with a social evening for members and guests of both groups. Entry is open to geotechnical engineers, geologists and related construction professionals, including research students. Entrants should be under 30 years of age and only one person may enter on each poster.

The format for the competition is in two stages comprising display of a poster whilst answering informal questions from the judges followed by a 10 minute presentation of the poster with a 5 minute question/answer session. Depending on the number of entrants, pre-selection for entry to stage 2 will be carried out on the night by a panel of judges. A maximum of four entrants will progress to stage 2. Marks out of 50 will be given by each judge as set out below and the winning entrant will be the person with the highest average score from the judges.

The poster should be no larger than 1 sheet of A0 paper (1189 x 841 mm, portrait orientation only) and can contain text, maps, diagrams, photographs, etc as desired. A high quality ‘professional’ visual presentation is not sought. However, clarity, brevity and technical competence is required. Note that the number of competition entrants will be limited to 12.

The poster should include a summary of the geotechnical or geological work carried out including a statement of the aims of the project or study, the methods employed and the results gained together with analysis, conclusion and recommendations. The subject matter may relate to any aspect of industrial practice or related work where geotechnical or geological skills have been used. Examples could include site investigation, design, construction, monitoring, case study back analysis or research.

Additional information can be found on the downloadable flyer.
