Serials
The collection
The Geological Society Library holds a collection of over 4,500 serial titles from all over the world, of which over 600 are currently received by purchase, gift and exchange. In addition to modern major journals, our collection includes many obscure or old journals.
Details of serial holdings will be found in the Library catalogue, which contains links to electronic versions of print journals where they exist. Select "Serials" from the drop-down box to limit catalogue searches to serials only.
Most of the material held by the Library is available for loan to members, and the Library operates a document supply service (subject to copyright regulations).
Offsite access using Athens passwords
The Geological Society Library has arranged offsite online access to over 100 e-journals for Fellows of the Society. Contact the Serials Librarian for further details or download and send an Athens user account application form to the Library.
This service is for Fellows only and is not available to Corporate Patrons.
Recent special issues
Details of recently published special issues which Fellows can access online are updated regularly on the Virtual Library.
Access point for open access e-journals
The Virtual Library has an e-journal A-Z list with details of over 300 full-text e-journals. This includes free open access journals and the Library's subscribed Athens access journals.
Surplus journals available
The Library has a selection of journal issues which are not required due to duplication, defect or damage. Check the surplus journals list for details of these items and how to request them.
